I’m dilligently searching for a company that is a match for me. I want to perform in a way that matches my style. I don’t want to have to worry about rigging, costumes, etc. I want to perform! I love the styles of Zen Arts, Cirque Berzerk and The Lucent Dossier Experience. I’m doing my best to get my foot into those doors and search for others.

In the meantime, though, my custom designed and built aerial rig is almost done! I worked out on it last night. It has a few more kinks to be worked out and then need to be visually beautified. Other than that, It’s good to go! And it’s magnificent!

Pulling out a few stops

On Christmas Eve, I decided that I needed to do something about the issues that come up when setting up equipment in various different spaces in order to perform. I talked to my brother and dad who are geniuses at building things. The three of us brain-stormed for hours. My brother, who is an engineer, jumped right on it and drew up a model for a free-standing aerial and pole rig that I can set up and take down almost anywhere. We are in the building process at the moment and will hopefully get to a trial period by the end of this week.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to have the ability to expand the venues that I am able to perform in. Also this rig will give event promoters and business owners more peace of mind when worried about my safety, liability and any kind of damage to their property.

If I were an animal

My performance style is different from most of the performers I see. I’m not flashy, sparkly, in your face, spotlight kind of girl. If I were an animal on my lyra, I would be a black panther; quiet, dark, slow but intentional movement, sexy, sleek lines, in the shadows but you wouldn’t miss me.

Hmmmm. . . blog, huh? I’ve never done this before. I think it’s the perfect way to chronicle my journey in following my dreams so here goes!

My intention is to create a life for myself full of passion, purpose, inspiration and aliveness. I have no intention of surviving this life. I am thriving. I’m reminded of one of my favorite quotes, ” Don’t ask what the world needs, ask what makes me come alive. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

When I am in the air, when I’m pushing the limits of my body, when I’m performing, I feel alive. When I’m in that place that feeling becomes contagious. For me, it’s that place where time slows to nearly a stop and I can hear the most subtle sounds around me and feel the most intricate of sensations within my body. It’s beautiful. I want to be in that place as much as possible.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time finding my own groove within my local aerial community. To be honest I haven’t found my place within it. I see what others are doing, where and how they’re performing and it’s great. But it’s not me. It’s not my rhythm. I truly dance to the beat of my own drum. And I’m becoming more and more clear that I need to create a path for myself. My practice lately has been getting clearer and closer to what I want to create. I feel like my vision is clear now. I know how I want it to look. Now I’m on the hunt to find the support required for that. I can’t wait for you all to see it too!
